About Durham Karate Academy

Durham Karate Academy is a long-running Shotokan karate club teaching traditional karate to children and adults across the city, with classes at Vane Tempest Hall in Gilesgate and at St Aidan's Church Hall, Pity Me. Sessions build fitness, discipline, confidence and self-defence in a friendly, structured environment suitable for complete beginners upwards.

As with most community martial arts clubs, new members are welcome to come along and try a session, and families often train together. Grading through the belts gives younger students clear goals and a sense of progress. Contact the club for current class times and venues.
