Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at Durham Cathedral
Durham Cathedral's candlelit Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, on 22 December at 6pm and Christmas Eve at 3pm. No tickets needed.
About This Event
The service begins in darkness with a lone chorister singing Once in Royal David's City, before carols old and new and readings tell the Christmas story. It is held on Tuesday 22 December at 6pm and on Christmas Eve at 3pm, when the Durham Miners' Association Band also plays from 1pm. No tickets are needed, but the Cathedral recommends arriving 60 to 90 minutes early and dressing for an outdoor queue. Christmas Eve is very popular, so the 22 December service is the better bet for a seat.
