Coarse
Independent Durham restaurant serving a six-course tasting menu of modern British small plates using local, seasonal produce, changing every few weeks.
About Coarse
Coarse is a small independent restaurant just off North Road, tucked into a courtyard in the centre of Durham, and is one of only a couple of Durham kitchens listed in the Michelin Guide. The format is a set tasting menu of modern British small plates built around local and seasonal ingredients, with the line-up changing regularly through the year so repeat visits rarely repeat dishes.
The cooking leans on carefully made sauces and a pared-back, produce-led style rather than showy presentation, and a separate vegetarian tasting menu is offered alongside the main one. Other dietary requirements can usually be accommodated if flagged when booking. It is a compact room, so tables are limited and reservations are the sensible approach.
