Coates Butchers
Award-winning family butcher in Coxhoe, just outside Durham, run since 1965 and known for its pies, cooked meats and prize-winning steak burger.
About Coates Butchers
Coates Butchers has been a family-run business in the village of Coxhoe, just south-east of Durham city, since 1965. The shop has twice been named Northern England's best butcher, and its steak burger won a national prize at the Smithfield Awards in London, judged at the Butchers' Hall, marking it out as a genuine destination butcher just outside the city.
Alongside fresh cuts, Coates is known for its own pies, cooked meats, ready meals and prepared dishes, combining traditional butchery skills with a few modern touches. It is the kind of shop people happily drive a little further for, particularly when planning ahead for Christmas or a celebration and wanting something a cut above.
