About Flat White Café

Flat White Café is the original, smaller Flat White in Durham, reached through a narrow alley off Elvet Bridge. Opened in 2010, it is a compact independent cafe with a long, low room and a handful of outdoor tables, and it has built a strong reputation for speciality coffee (sourced from Newcastle's Ouseburn Coffee Co.) alongside a short brunch menu. It should not be confused with Flat White Kitchen, the much larger sister venue on Saddler Street.

The cafe is popular enough that walk-ins are generally limited to its brunch service. It is well documented across Durham food and tourism listings and maintains an active social media presence, with a substantial Instagram following. Its Elvet Bridge location places it a short walk from the market place and the river, in the heart of the city centre.
