The Half Moon Inn is a much-loved historic pub on New Elvet, a short walk across Elvet Bridge from the Market Place, and takes its name from the distinctive crescent-shaped bar that curves through the interior. A listed building retaining plenty of original features, including a handsome back bar and fireplace dating from the early twentieth century, it is a traditional, unpretentious drinkers' pub with a good range of ales. Its real summer draw is the riverside courtyard to the rear, where you can take a pint out and soak up views towards the cathedral.

Central and characterful, it appeals to those who like a proper pub with history over a modern bar, and the outdoor space makes it a fine warm-weather spot as well as a cosy winter one. It sits among the New Elvet pubs popular with locals and students alike. As with most pubs, it is worth confirming current opening hours, especially for the courtyard, before a visit.
