The Court

Bar and restaurant on Court Lane, reopened in August 2026 after a major refurbishment of the historic former Court Inn, serving cask ale alongside pub classics and bistro-style dishes.

About The Court

The Court occupies a Court Lane building with around 150 years of history, reopening in August 2026 after a long closure and a substantial refurbishment led by a group of North East operators. The interior pairs dark oak and leather with a traditional feel, and the venue combines a bar with restaurant and casual seating areas. Cask ale is served, and the food offer runs from elevated pub classics through bistro-style plates to a la carte dishes.

The site sits close to the city centre and the River Wear, within walking distance of Elvet Bridge and Durham Cathedral. Lunchtime and evening meals are available, and the upper floors of the building house a separate boutique aparthotel. Opening hours run late into the evening, with extended hours on Friday and Saturday nights.
