About Veera Indian Dining & Bar
Veera Indian Dining & Bar opened in June 2026 on North Road, taking over the well-known site that traded for years as Alishaan, close to the railway station and the bus station at the top end of the city centre. Following an extensive refurbishment, it offers traditional Indian cooking alongside a cocktail bar, aiming for a more contemporary sit-down dining experience than a standard curry house while keeping the emphasis on authentic flavours and quality ingredients. The restaurant was formally opened by the Mayor of Durham, and Durham BID has pointed to it as a fresh investment in the city's hospitality scene. Its central position makes it an easy choice for a meal in the heart of Durham, whether before a night out or as a destination in itself. As with any new opening, it is worth booking ahead at weekends and confirming current opening hours.
