About Durham Cricket
Durham Cricket is the county's first-class cricket club, a County Championship county since 1992, playing its home matches at the Riverside ground at Chester-le-Street, known under its sponsorship as Banks Homes Riverside. The ground sits in a bend of the River Wear with Lumley Castle floodlit on the hill behind it, one of the most distinctive settings in English cricket, and it has staged Test and international cricket as well as the county's Championship and white-ball fixtures. The Riverside is a year-round venue rather than a summer-only one. Outside the cricket season it hosts concerts, conferences, weddings and community events, including the Festival of Fireworks each November, which is the largest organised display in County Durham. For Durham City residents it is roughly seven miles north, with parking on site sold as a separate ticket for major events.
